2022 St. Stephen Cemetery Committee Members:

  1.  Mary Jane Lampe
  2. Barbara Schrubey
  3. Bill Lesch
  4.  Ray Bailey Jr.
  5. Fr. Robert Kacalo

Our task was to make the best possible record available for the families, friends, and St. Stephen’s parish. Due to the fires that had occurred at the original location of St. Stephen’s Church years ago, most of the records were lost. As a result, the committee had no control over certain omissions.

The committee started preliminary research of St. Stephen’s Cemetery on October 28, 2022. We did a physical verification of the interment listing with headstones of those that were still legible.

The committee started combining records utilizing processes as was done with St. Joseph Cemetery.

Resources available for the verification process were:

a. Original Parish partial registry card index.

b. Parish Cemetery binder with alphabetical internment documentation.

The verification process was completed in the summer of 2023. The committee returned in October 2023 to make physical measurements of the cemetery. Distances from headstone to adjacent headstone markers, and from row-to-row placements. This determined the approximate physical grave plot sizing of 4 1/2 feet by 12 1/2 feet. This information helped create an updatable PDF plot drawing. This drawing is an approximation of the existing locations of headstone markers. (NOT drawn to scale) Many graves do not have a headstone marker and are unknown in their physical locations.

An updatable document was created in Microsoft Excel for future reference.

This includes:

* Row-by-row listing for all grave locations.

* Row-by-column coordinates to locate an individual grave on the plot drawing.

The committee revisited the cemetery in late fall 2024 to determine the locations for graves and list them on the PDF plot drawing. The drawing was completed December 15, 2024.
